Who should attend?
Supervisors, Foreman and Operatives employed by Organisation and Companies who are responsible for excavation in the Highway.

Course Aims
To enable candidates to recognise and establish the position of existing apparatus in the Highway prior to excavation and to expose this apparatus using safe working practices.

Course Objective
On completion each candidate will be able to:

  1. Recognise the dangers associated with the damage to underground apparatus together with the cost implications of any repair work resulting from damage.
  2. Interpret the information provided, on various scale plans, by relevant Authorities and Utilities on the location of existing underground apparatus.
  3. Understand the principles of pipe and cable locating and use the equipment provided to locate existing apparatus.
  4. Transfer the information obtained by all methods on to the ground prior to excavation taking place.
  5. Understanding of safe digging practises using the correct plant and equipment.
